Impressing People through Attitude

April 27, 2018 | Posted by: Sherry Corbitt

We’ve all learned how to make a good first impression and how to have a conversation, but today’s topic of discussion is how to impress people. Will Rogers states, “too many people spend money they haven’t earned to buy things they don’t want to impress people they don’t like.” Sure, you can brag about your new car or how much money you make or your awesome vacation, but this kind of attitude isn’t modest. It can actually be a deterrent, especially for those who are struggling or those who aren’t as successful as you.

So how do we impress people? The answer lies within your attitude. Is the glass half empty or half full? We are naturally attracted to people who radiate a positive attitude and a positive outlook. On the contrary, we tend to distance ourselves from people with a negative attitude or depressing emotions. This is simply because a positive attitude motivates you, whereas a negative attitude can drain your energy. Here are some helpful tips;

  • Be Authentic – You impress people the most by not trying to impress them

Be Kind – Your warmth and compassion will act as a magnet, attracting people to you

Be Generous – Your willingness to give and be selfless will show, whether you are giving your time, money or knowledge away

Have a Positive Attitude – as mentioned above, having a positive attitude will get others motivated and warm their spirits

Be Resilient – Show others that you will always do your best, even if things don’t go according to plan. Show your determination

Follow through on your Word – Words are cheap. Actions speak louder. Doing this will show that you are reliable, believable and trustworthy

Be Eager to Learn – Striving towards personal growth is always impressive

Be Content – Your life is your life. Be happy with what you have and never get upset about what you don’t have. Things come and go

Show your Interest in Others – Be genuine and get to know people on a personal level. When others feel like you care about their lives, they appreciate it

Have Integrity – Do not speak poorly of others and if you see that someone is being attacked, try to help defend them. People will trust you if you show you have their back
