Tips for Spring Cleaning

I am very happy to say Winter is coming to an end as we are beginning to see warmer weather. Spring is an excellent time to declutter and clean your home, allowing for a reset going into the summer months! Although, when cleaning, it can feel overwhelming so here are some tips to get you started!
Tip 1: Declutter
Cleaning your space of used or damaged items will make an immense difference for your space (and it also feels the most satisfying)! One tip I have used myself to organize my closet is asking “have I worn this in the last year”? If you haven't worn it in a year, it is clearly not your go-to item. If you aren’t completely ready to get rid of those items, try “have I worn it in the last 2 years”. If you haven't worn it in 2 years, do you really need it? The answer should almost always be no. Furthermore, if you have kids, some other items you can look at donating are outgrown jackets or unused toys! The key to decluttering is coming to terms with; “if it's not used, it’s not needed”!
Tip 2: Deep Clean
While you may do maintenance cleaning throughout the Winter to maintain your home, a deep clean is great to tackle places normally not cleaned. You may decide to start with your home appliances! This can include cleaning behind the refrigerator and stove, deep cleaning the dishwasher, or removing lint from the washer and dryer. Another consideration is, when was the last time you cleaned out your cabinets and freezer? I know when deep cleaning I have found both expired products, and also products I forgot I had! Additionally, you can also move large furniture such as beds, couches, cabinets, or TVs. The amount of dust and random items you will find is surprising!
Tip 3: Outside Maintenance
Since not much time has been spent outdoors during the Winter months, your outside property may need some maintenance. Start by checking your property for any weather damage or needed repairs including on the roof or driveway cracks. Once everything is checked, some maintenance may be required such as cleaning the gutters, cleaning the windows, and adding new flowers/mulch to the garden! Now my personal favourite- any outside furniture and decorations can also be taken out of storage to be enjoyed for the summer months!
I love Spring cleaning as it is an opportunity for me to refresh my home, allowing my space to feel calm and welcoming. Deep cleaning is hard work, but the finished results are very rewarding. Cheers to the warmer weather, and happy Spring cleaning!
